Reasons to Visit Barcelona in 2025

Hi Reader,

Are you planning to visit Barcelona this year?

I'd love to know what you have planned so hit reply and let me know when you are coming (or planning to come) and how long you'll be here for. That will help me create the most useful content for you.

If you're not sure when to plan your trip, check out my recommendations for the best time to visit Barcelona, or my month-by-month breakdown of what to expect.

And if you don't have any plans to come to Barcelona this year, this email should convince you to book!

Here's a taste of what to expect in Barcelona and Catalonia in 2025:

Celebrate Catalonia as the World Gastronomy Region 2025

Catalonia is the first territory in the world to receive this distinction, and 2025 is full of events that contribute to enriching Catalan food and wine.

The website Som Gastronomia has details of the events planned.

Montserrat Celebrates its 1000th Anniversary

2025 commemorates the thousandth anniversary of the foundation of the Monastery of Montserrat with special events taking place throughout the year to celebrate.

The Montserrat Monastery website has more details here.

Epic Festivals in Barcelona

Barcelona hosts a range of incredible festivals throughout the year, from unique Catalan cultural experiences to music festivals with international stars.

My favourite local festivals are Sant Jordi in April when the streets are filled with book sellers and roses, and La Merce in September which is a city-wide celebration, with live music, castellers (human towers), correfocs (fire runs) and more.

Primavera Sound Festival has already sold out thanks to the headliners Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX, among others, but I'm excited to see Alanis Morissette at Cruilla in the summer.

Reopening of the Magic Fountain (Maybe!)

Barcelona's famous Magic Fountain at Montjuic has been closed since 2022 due to drought conditions. While the fountains are closed the city council has pledged a €3 million investment to upgrade its control systems, sound and lighting with energy-efficient technologies.

The work is expected to be completed in August 2025, when the fountain could reopen, as long as drought restrictions have eased. So keep your fingers crossed for that!

Enjoy All of the Other Fabulous Things to Do in Barcelona

I know some people were concerned about the anti-tourism protests in the city last year, but Barcelona is still a wonderful place to visit.

To make the most of your visit try to stay here for several days so you can explore the top attractions as well as discover some of the more unusual things to do, connect with local people and learn about the culture.

Don't forget you can take a look at the Why Visit Barcelona website for more tips and advice, and/or join our Facebook group to ask any questions and get advice from the community.

I hope you make it to Barcelona soon!

Best wishes,

Claire x
