Hi ReaderThe weather in Barcelona is heating up as we're at the start of the summer season. If you're visiting Barcelona this month, check out what's coming up in June! Primavera SoundDate: 4-8th June 2025 Primavera Sound is one of Europe’s most renowned music festivals, and kicks off tomorrow in Parc del Forum. Tickets sold out in record time this year, just weeks after they went on sale, thanks to headline acts Charlie CXC, Sabrina Carpenter and Chapell Roan. Be aware that the yellow metro line and tram to Forum will be busier than usual in the evenings, and there are measures in place to help people to get there and back smoothly. Meat & Fire FestivalDate: 13-15th June 2025 Not one for vegetarians, but if you love a good BBQ then this is the festival for you! Over 3 days this gastronomic festival brings the best of barbecue to Moll de la Fusta at Port Vell. You’ll find showcooking, workshops, concerts and lots of barbecued meats. Check the website here. Sonar FestivalDate: 12- 14th June 2025 Another major music festival in Barcelona, Sonar takes place in mid-June and is one of the most important electronic music festivals in Europe. Sonar features performances by international DJs and electronic music producers, as well as events during the day including live shows, exhibitions, workshops, and talks known as Sónar by Day. Get more details and tickets on the official website here. Corpus Christi and the Dancing EggDate: 19th - 22nd June 2025 This religious festival takes place on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday to mark the Feast of Corpus Christi. The Dancing Egg refers to the tradition of placing a boiled egg into the jet of a fountain so it “dances” in the water. The fountain is decorated with flowers and fruit, and you can find a Dancing Egg in the Gothic Cathedral cloister as well as in some other courtyards and gardens such as the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes and Frederic Marès Museum. There is also a Sardana dance performance in Plaça de Sant Jaume at 7pm on Thursday 19th, and a procession the following Sunday beginning at 7pm in Plaça de Sant Jaume, leading to the Cathedral. You can spot the Gegants (giants) and other traditional Catalan festival figures like the lion and eagle in the procession. Sant JoanDate: 23rd - 24th June The Revetlla de Sant Joan (Night of Sant Joan), celebrated on June 23rd, is one of Barcelona’s most magical (and noisy!) nights. It’s a festival of fire and light, marking the summer solstice and celebrating the shortest night of the year and the birth of St. John the Baptist. Bonfires are lit across the city, particularly on the beaches, where people gather to celebrate with fireworks, music, dancing and all-night beach parties. The tradition is deeply rooted in ancient pagan rituals, symbolising the triumph of light over darkness. The night is also associated with purification and renewal, with some people jumping over the bonfires or swimming in the sea at midnight to cleanse themselves for the year ahead. Families and friends gather for dinners that often include Coca de Sant Joan, a special sweet bread topped with candied fruit. The night culminates in a dazzling display of fireworks, with everyone flocking to the beaches of Barcelona to enjoy the bonfires and fireworks all night long. It’s a lot of fun, but firecrackers and fireworks are going off all night, so don't expect much sleep! PrideThroughout June, Pride is celebrated across Barcelona. Fun, educational, and celebrating diversity and the LGBTQI+ community, there is an extensive programme of activities organised in collaboration with the Barcelona LGTBI Centre, managed by the Platform of LGBTI Entities of Catalonia. Live Music PerformancesVarious Dates If you love live music and want to see your favourite artist perform in Barcelona, check out the lineup at venues across Barcelona. Barcelona Turisme has a good summary of events and live shows on their website where you can search by date. Some of the artists and performers coming to Barcelona in June include Guns n Roses, Billie Eilish and all the artists performing at the music festivals above.
